Trust me I want you...

Hi guys!

Just so you know, Keane actually played Snowed Under and Sunshine in Belfast (dunno if they did in Dublin too...) and if I was jealous before, I'm... I-don't-know-what right now :P It'll be the wish of my life to see Keane play Snowed Under live! It's definitely one of my all time favourite Keane songs :)

And talking about all time favourites... I have actually found my all time favourite picture of Tom Chaplin, taken by the amaaazing Anna (Anna1976 on km.com)! She always takes amazing pictures, and this one dazzle me. She's kindly enough given me permission to post it here so I'm proudly presenting this great great picture:

And, as you probably noticed, it's taken in Belfast! I get more and more jealous of everone that went to the Belfast gig!
Just look at the jacket... GOD!
(Hmm, sorry about my hysteria, I don't know what gotten into me :P)

And hey, you have to check out the vids. Keane posted on their website. Unfortunately, you can only see them if you become a member (so do that :P). The LA mini documentary is soo funny :D

Alright, I need to stop writing. I'll give you an update in no time ;)

i'm baaaaaack! (:

Hello everyone!
So sorry that I've haven't posted in SOOO long... work and everything got the better of me... and I had no life for about a week because I was so busy!
I have taken a bit of a break on the B-Side write-ups but I will be sure to get back to writing them this weekend when I have more time.
I am writing this post to update on Keane's recent EU tour start!!! It, if you haven't already noticed, has been pretty busy on keanemusic.com with the liveblog and such. If you don't know what the liveblog is, it is: when Keane's staff lets fans write in questions and the like while they are at a Keane rehearsal. I get up early in the morning to be a part of it, and would advise it to every Keane fan out there! It is really great! :D The link to the most recent one they had is here:
http://www.keanemusic.com/archive-comment.php?rnd=1Uy4hiW2PSQLnErRVVv
LSpyjQmAB4Ao2fbTNdwJnjn0%3D
Pretty cool huh? :)
Another thing that I would like to write about is the great site:
http://www.keanebackline.info/site/
Backline follows the more technical/musical side of Keane, with information I am not capable of coming up with. It is really informative and is a very well run site! Has very cool merchandise as well... along with the periodic competition. If you aren't already an avid fan of the site, I would suggest that you check this out as well!
Going back to the EU tour subject-- Keane recently had their first two gigs (in Belfast and Dublin) with their third performance coming up tomorrow in Newcastle I think, with a Glasgow gig coming up 2 days after. The 2 gigs have been really great I have heard, and if anyone on here went to these gigs- please comment/review about your experience there for everyone would love to hear about it! They brought out some oldies, which I am really happy about, like Snowed Under, Everybody's Changing etc. :D
(credits to yolanda on km.com for the photo btw)
I'll be sure to post again soon-- its nice to be back on the blog!

Tom drawing. :)

So... I've drawn for a while to the tunes of Keane b-sides, but my creative feeling ended when I finished my drawing of Tom, so unfortunately there's only a drawing of Tom. Maybe I'll draw the others another day... I don't know :P you have to get the feeling right ;)

But I can tell you that I was REALLY satisfied with my Tom drawing! I haven't been this satisfied with a drawing since I don't know when ;)

Unfortunately my scanner didn't want cooperate so I had to take a pic. of my drawing which messed up the light a bit, but I hope you'll like it anyway ;)

Here's the original:

Here's my drawing:

That's that ;) Pleeeease comment. I'd LOVE to know what you think of it :D

My Keane-day ;)

Heeeeeelloo :D

So, I've dedicated this whole day to Keane. Of course, I could've done better than I did today, and I plan to do it my next Keane-day ;)
Things I've done so far today:

* Watched Keane Live
* Watched Strangers
* Played We Might As Well be Strangers and A Bad Dream on guitar
* Mourning that I wasn't in Belfast yesterday*

That's so far! I feel very creative and I think I'll draw some pics. of the guys right now. One for each person! I think I'll do it right now :D

And right, when I watched Strangers I saw something I obviously missed the last time I watched it. Just look what it says on Rich's shirt**:

Hehe, you have no idea how happy I was when I noticed! I keep wonder though how he got that shirt and why he wears it :P

Okay, so... now I'm off to draw some pics. I'll show them when I'm finished :D

Hi :)
I'm sorry we haven't updated the blog in a few days. I don't know Christa's reason, but I think she's really busy at the moment. My reason for beeing away is that I've been intensively involved in Breaking Dawn the last couple of days, so I have barely even touched a computer. But hey, here I am, and since I've finally finshed reading the whole Twilight Saga, I can now dedicate my life completely to Keane again ;)

As I promised a lot of days ago, I shall now give you a GREAT interview which I think you'll enjoy a lot. I laughed my ass off when I first saw it!

Me, I'm just playing along...

Hey all of you :)

Sorry I haven't updated on you. I've actually tried to be social and meet my friends at the same time I've been reading Eclipse and try to run this blog. And I also have to find an important paper and I just can't!!! I have to find it until Tuesday, and I don't expect I will. I'm the sloppiest person on this earth! So I've have a lot of stuff on my mind lately. I think it will be over when I've read all the Twilight book since it's mostly their fault my mind is busy these days (and I only have one more to go!)

Anyway, about me and keane... Today I had to do A LOT of dishes (I expect nobody's been doing the dishes while I've been reading), and I took me all Hopes and Fears to be done... normally I'm already finished at "Your eyes open" (6th track on H&F). But the most annoying about it is that I wasn't even upset, because I found it relaxing to listen to keane. Of couse... I know that's how I react to keane, but you should have seen the heap of dishes! Hehe, keane is truly amazing.

And now, I shan't bore you more. Christa's come up with a great idea though! I'm going to track down all the funny, interesting and heartwarming keane interviews I can. Starting tomorrow after work (I'm so miserable for haveing to work on a sunday).

Closer Now

Sorry I haven't posted in a while- been very busy! ;) However, I have made time to write another song synopsis/review! :)
Closer Now:
Summary/Review: Closer Now (*our blog's namesake*!), like the previous three songs I reviewed, is very different from the normal Keane, perhaps primarily because it is written by Tom Chaplin (who is also known as "Tomsipoms" as well now...refer to previous post!) ;). I think that this experimentation with many different sounds and genres (while not having to create an album around these sort of songs) is one of my favorite parts of Keane's b-sides and older songs. It is interesting to hear the different tones Tom Chaplin is able to produce through the different songs he has written in the past, and I hope that he will be able to contribute songs to their next album. Now, focusing on Closer Now: It has a mellow rock and roll sound and (in my opinion) follows someone who holds being grounded and centered the most important thing in the world. However, he hopes and strongly "believes" (as mentioned in the song) that the person he loves will slowly come to him without noticing it. Tom's vocals are great in it and it really is a great and sweet song that exudes a confidence not usually found in Keane songs.
Lyric Sample: "Believe
You might stumble and come closer now
Make time to be
All this and more for me
Well you're the best so well done you
I won't go on…"

Hope you like it!

Eh... what?

Alright, just had to write this...

I'm at school right now and showed this lovely picture of Tom to my friend Hanna:

And do you know what I called him?

Tomsipoms!

HAHAH, OMG!!!

Why? It's not like I'm a Tom-girl or anything :P

Tomsipoms xD

right, back to class...

Rubbernecking

Hey there! Finished another... only 62 to go... ;)
Rubbernecking:
Summary/Review: Rubbernecking is yet another early Keane song written by Tom Chaplin. This is very different from the usual Keane, with the mood changing masterfully from uneasy to tender. Tom's voice can easily cover the different pitches this song presents and captures the aforementioned mood perfectly. I am unsure as to what the song means, while the tone is obvious from the first thirty seconds of the song. The song is around six minutes long, but the time passes quickly as you quickly are encaptured with the lyrics and ever changing melody. This is another song I would recommend to any Keane fan, for it is truly unique and represents what Tom is capable of (in the song writing area of music). His style does vary from Tim's but mirrors it in lyrical depth and in being an entrancing musical experience, which is shown through this amazing song!
Lyric Sample: "I come to
There will be no more drowning
Help, colorless and cowering
You should understand me
When you're understanding…"

Also, if this can be of any help in understanding the songs lyrics, here is the definition of rubbernecking (a term I haven't heard of before!) ;):

hmm... Is this a widely used term in England?

Under Pressure

Hello all of you!

I feel a bit sorry for myself. I have so much to do, and it all came very suddenly. Like, two days ago, I had NOTHING to do! Now I have homework, work (I'm helping in church), and of course reading. And I have this blog, which I want to write in a lot more than I do, but since I'm busy, I'm out of ideas. I really look forward to this weekend when I can relax, perhaps give you a little update of my keane-life and so on.

I just finished writing half a paper for Swedish and I wrote for like 5 hours!!! And I haven't even finished yet, that sucks. But I'm taking a class called Webdesign, so soon I'll know how to make this blog look just like on of the walls in The Barn (Keanes studio in Sussex), it's very exciting.

Well, I guess I shouldn't just whine about my life and talk a bit more about Keane. But all this pressure...

Keane recently anounced through their website that the support act for their UK tour will be Frankmusic! Check them out here :D

For your information, the Keane song that's stuck in my head today is Call me what you like, and I blame Christa for it! If I hadn't read her post this morning... but hey, it was very interesting reading, I didn't even know some of that stuff you wrote, that Tom wrote it, I had no clue. An amazing idea, but I won't interfere in your project, you know much more about the old songs than I do! I look forward to the reading. I should start a project as well, I have to think about it...

Call me what you like <3

Wolf at the Door

Hiya all! Finished another:
Wolf at the Door:
Summary/Review: Wolf at the Door is another early Keane song, which is similar to Call Me What You Like in tempo and the "general" genre it would be listed in. While it could possibly be overlooked at first because of its similarities (I am ashamed to admit I did), when listened to a second or third time its truly brilliant melodies and beats show. It is very similar as well to the chorus of Playing Along with its fading beats and synchronization of the different instruments used, which is a true trademark of Keane. This is, in my opinion, something worthy of an album and am in constant search of a live performance of this on Youtube. The steady drum beat, varying vocal ranges and rather catchy lyrics that are subject to many interpretations makes for an ace song that I would recommend to any Keane fan!
Lyric Sample: "Inside out and upside down
And don't make a sound
So I live and feel
Oh no, don't make a sound
The wolf's at the door
And all your streetfighting years
Won't help you anymore…"

Call Me what You Like

Hiya again,
I started the summary... and realized I have approx. 65 songs to review etc. so I decided to post them one by one as I finish them. Here's the first of many to come:
Call Me What You Like:
Summary/Review: An early song, Call Me What You Like is one of the only songs released that was written by Tom Chaplin. This is very different from Keane's usual vibe, being more rock-and-rollish and using different sound effects along with a simple steel stringed guitar strumming in the quieter parts of the song. It also portrays a different sound from Tom Chaplin, keeping his voice middle range without any high notes or low-pitched intro verses. Perhaps this gives a quick intro into what sound Keane chooses to have next…
Lyric Sample: "There's no believing and no reason why
Well I'm superstitious and I can fly
I float through the ceiling
And into your eyes
Call me what you like
I just wanna' be there with you, all the time
Do you wanna' be here with me, all the time…"
Links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SMYxnzTwd
(lyrics retrieved from:http://www.lyrics007.com/KEANE%20Lyrics/Call%20Me%20What%20You%20Like%20Lyrics
.html) and so: "Call Me What You Like Lyrics by KEANE are the property of the respective authors, artists and labels, Call Me What You Like Lyrics by KEANE are provided for educational purposes only , If you like the song, please buy relative CD."

Enjoy everyone, CMWYL is a great song!! Be sure to comment if you want! ;)

older keane classics

Hey there!
I have recently been loving Keane's older songs (before their first released album: Hopes and Fears) as well as other B-Sides and unofficially released songs. Figured I could start a listening guide for them so you all could see them! Hopefully it will be done in a few days, so I can post it then.... off to work!
To keep 'yall busy till then I would suggest listening to something new- but also very good: the Oscar winning soundtrack of the movie "Once". Both the movie and the songs are incredibly touching and captivating and I have loved it for a very long time:
Recommended songs:
Falling Slowly
Lies
When Your Minds Made Up
The Hill
If You Want Me
Trying to Pull Myself Away
Fallen From the Sky etc etc etc! ;)

I try to stay awake and remember my name...

I couldn't sleep last night. And when I read Christas post, this line just came to my head.
There's something very frightening going on in my brain, something I'm not used to, that's never happened before. I have two obsessions at the same time. Normaly, I'd forget my other obsession when I discovered my new one, but this time, no.
I'm talking about "old" obsession: Keane, new obsession: Twilight.

That book is the reason I didn't write anything yesterday, I lost track of time when reading.

But let's not talk about that anymore. I'm sure I'll never let Keane go, so don't worry, I'm to much involved to let go!

I wanted to comment on Christas last post. My very first thought when I heard this song (the end of August I think) was that it was about someone sick, someone you really loved and lived with, and you watched him/her struggle to survive and you yourself struggle not to lose control of emotions. I don't think this is what the song means either (I've read something about the meaning of it on Wikipedia), but it was my first thought.
This probably have something to do with my dad, since he's got cancer and everything. That's why this song means a lot to me (I shan't lie, I voted in the poll myself xD)

Well, that was my deep thought about Everybody's Changing, and here's a live version of the song:

Hello everyone!
I was just listening to Everybody's Changing by Keane (which is winning the poll right now, I think) and discovered that if you think of it from the point of view of a person in a school Sports locker room, the whole meaning changes...
"So little time
Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same."
You know? Changing, game, etc? I really hope that this doesn't ruin the song for you, I just felt a strong urge to share my theory with all of you (although I'm am 99.9% sure this isn't the actual meaning of the song!)
What do you guys think? ;)

The Silence of an Alien ;)

Well, I have now also checked out almost every extra part of Strangers (you have to click on the arrow keys to find them), but I'm sure I've missed something so I'll watch it again very soon.

I'd really like to hear The Silence of an Alien (a song Tom wrote, he talks about it in Stangers)... was it called that? God, now I get seriously unsure... well it was something like that anyway :P

Honestly, if you haven't got Strangers, buy it. It's so cool and special :)

I have Keane Live on in the backround, and it's so damn perfect. I'm so happy I bought it, even though I owe my mom a lot of money now :P

And about something completely different. If you haven't heard the b-side of Perfect Symmetry yet, here it is, and it's called "Staring at the ceiling"

I think I'll watch their preformance of The Frog Prince on Keane Live for the rest of the night. It's so bloody awesome!

Oh my Keane!

Angelica writing, after one of the most amazing experiences of her life ;)
You know... Keane Live is... I don't think I have ever seen something as great with them live (exept for seeing them live by yourself of course). I mean, I've watched a lot of clips on youtube and such of them playing live but NOTHING, and I repeat NOTHING have been this great (exept for perhaps their preformance of OADLT* on Strangers)!!! I couldn't take my eyes of the screen! I laughed, I cried and sang along.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE KEANE LIVE!

Toms voice is f*****g brilliant in it, and Tim and Rich plays amazingly and the CROWD! What an awesome crowd!

And me, being a big Harry Potter nerd, found it pretty cool that the concert was filmed the 21st of July 2007 (the day the last Potter-book came out). But I'm not going to talk about HP now :P

Links were you can buy Keane Live: U.S. U.K. Europe

I think I'm going to watch it again later tonight, and I'll probably tell you a bit more about Strangers as well ;)

We might as well be STRANGERS!

Hi, Angelica writing. Right now, it's 1.25AM here in Sweden and I'm so tired I can barely sit up straight. But I just HAD to tell you immediately, that I have finally watched Strangers (and it's still on in the backround :P)

The reson I hadn't watched it before was because it was very expensive (and I didn't want to watch it on youtube since it seemd very special). But suddenly it was like 54% sell off, and I bought it immediately, togheter with Keane Live (which I will tell you more about tomorrow when I've watched it). Anyway, and I have waited for it to come like a maniac, and today it did!!! (But was on the phone with a friend for 3 hours, so I started watching it 11.20PM). I've got some thing to check up on it tomorrow like some live preformances etc.

I perfectly loved every single part of it! It's so simple but true and you really get to know the guys :) And just so you know, now I love Tim EVEN MORE! (moahaha Christa I'm going to bore you to death)

For those of you that have no clue what Strangers is, it's this documentary film of Keane touring (summer of 2005 if I'm correct) mixed with live preformances and other great stuff. If you haven't seen it, you really should.
If you live in the U.S. you can buy it here, if you live in the U.K. you can buy it here, and if you live in Europe (I know U.K.'s in EU right :P) you can buy it here.
(Everyone probably knows already where they can buy it but this was just some help :P)

Isn't Tim just wonderful :P Actually, Tom is pretty brilliant in Strangers as well ;)

Well, since it's weekend, I'll be able to spam you with a lot of Keane (since I'm doing nothing this weekend).

The Welcoming #2

Hello everyone- Christa here! ;)
I am the "dear friend" Angelica mentioned (although secretly she probably thinks I am far from dear...)
A little intro to myself: I am a student in San Diego and my "hobbies" are Keane, other music (not as good as Keane though...), my own guitar and singing interests (CERTAINLY not as good as Keane!), horse back riding, and such.
I have been a dedicated Keane fan since the release of their Hopes and Fears album a very long five years ago, and was lucky enough to go to their Roxy LA concert Dec. 2008. I would suggest that every Keane fan that visits out blog also becomes a member of the Keane official forum which I recently joined. It is a great way to meet other boardies who you can befriend and meet up with at gigs, and just discuss Keane's music and therefore their awesome-ness! I am "Christa-lovefromSD" on there and Angelica is "brilliantim" so PM us when you are there and say hi!!!
The main purpose of this blog is to share Keane's music with you all, bit of an intro course for newbies to the group and a continuation of "fan-dom" for hard-core fans! ;)
If you find any youtube links-interviews-gig stuff-or lovely photos of Keane be sure to post them as we would all love to see them.
Last thing before I go- Angelica and I have a bit of an ongoing thing w/ Tom vs. Tim (I'm a Tom fan thank you very much) feel free to support me in our argument!!!!! :D
I'll be sure to post later!

The Welcoming!

Hello everyone that reads this!

My name is Angelica, I live in Sweden (so if you notice any weird English, that's why) and I'm 16 years old.
Me and my dear friend Christa, who lives in the U.S. (San Diego, California) are going to start writing this blog together. It's just an experiment, 'cause who knows if it's going to work with us writing toghether from different parts of the earth (with a time difference of 9 hours!!!).

Mostly, I'll be writing when Christa is asleep or in school or something, and then she'll write when I'm sleeping/ in school!

So, to comment the Title. I believe this makes us "Closer Now" than we were before, having this project together (and I really suck when I shall give titles so I just took whatever came to my mind).
And yes, to the major thing. This blog is going to be totally about KEANE, a brittish band that is really great. Beyond awesome to be correct! And they are the reson me and Christa got in contact with each other, because we are both members of the Keane forum.

So, to start you off, visit their myspace immediately!
And Christa, as soon as you can, you should introduce yourself :D (she's asleep now :P)
